For elite athletes, failure to get selected for a major championships or for lottery funding can be disastrous. However you normally have a right to appeal. If you need a barrister to help you in a sports selection appeal I can help. In some cases, especially for athletes without lucrative sponsorship or in high-paying sports I am prepared to consider acting on a pro bono (free) basis or with reduced fees.
I have an extensive background in sport and as a barrister have appeared in front of a wide range of courts and tribunals. This gives me a deep understanding of sporting issues and a flexible approach to advocacy in order to be as compelling as possible. I am also appointed to chair British Cycling hearings and sit for UK Athletics and British Canoeing on their disciplinary and appeals panels. By sitting as an adjudicator on disciplinary and appeals hearings I know what are convincing arguments and the issues panels want to address.
If you have a sports selection appeal coming up you often have very little time in which to prepare and lodge any evidence. If you have an important selection decision pending and you think you might not be selected it can be valuable to start preparations for a possible appeal before you know the outcome. I am happy to discuss options with you in complete confidence even before selections have been announced. Please contact me to see if I can help or you need advice.
